The Cougars seemed inspired by the large contingent of parents and other Cougars Teams turning out to watch as they dominated possession in the opening 20 minutes against the high flying Copthorne, Will Sharp and Sam Boyd putting in tenacious performances in midfield allowing the Copthorne midfield no time to settle on the ball.
Despite the possession and several half chances it was Copthorne who took the lead when a speculative cross took a ricochet off a Cougars defender and found its way into the goal 10 minutes before half time.
The second half saw Copthorne extend their lead to 2 – 0 when Zac Lammas finished well from an early corner. However Cougars have found a new steely determination over recent weeks and their never die attitude reaped its reward when Thomas Fitzpatrick showed pace and strength to beat two defenders to a loose ball outside the Copthorne area and placed the ball in the bottom corner of the goal, leaving the keeper no chance.
The Cougars then dominated the game and Thomas Fitzpatrick found the net again with a long distance shot. With 12 minutes remaining Thomas completed a hat-trick- as good as any you will see in youth football when he once again shot from distance and the ball flew in to the top corner of the goal.
What at the time seemed an endless, but in reflection a fairly comfortable last five minutes saw Copthorne throw players forward but the Cougars defence looked strong and in control. The game ended 3-2 to the home side.
