Ashington Cougars U15 v Lower Beeding U15

Ashington Cougars U15 v Lower Beeding U15

Without a league fixture Cougars once again backed themselves to challenge a team from a higher league to a friendly match as they visited Lower Beeding.
Cougars confidence seemed well founded and they controlled the game and dominated possession moving the ball with pace and precision. The chances started to appear and but for some excellent goal-keeping, defending and a couple of close off-side decisions Cougars could have scored 2 or 3 early goals.
Injuries to Jack Evans and William Farnes meant two re-shuffles in nearly as many minutes and Beeding started to find their way into the game as Cougars adjusted, however the back four looked strong with Sam Davies and Alex Macpherson each catching the eye and looking solid at right and left back respectively.
Despite the game being more evenly matched is was Cougars who took the lead when Toby Ralph found Thomas Fizpatrick with a delicious pass which dissected the Beeding defence, this was followed by a finish equally as impressive when Thomas read the bounce of the ball on a bobbly surface and chipped it wide of the oncoming keeper. The goal seemed once again change the flow of play and Cougars started to control the game and were unfortunate not to increase their lead before half time.
The break seemed to come at the right time for Beeding and the for the first 15 minutes of the second half they looked the more confident side and Cougars found themselves on the back foot, however Cougars remained resilient and kept the Beeding players from causing any major threat on goal and started to created chances on the break themselves, and when Thomas C weighted a 40 yard pass perfectly into the path on Toby Ralph he was desperately unlucky to see his shot whistle millimetres wide of the post.
The game then seemed to completely reverse on itself with Cougars yet again piling on the pressure and coming close on several further occasions with 'mom' Thomas Fitzpatrick powering down the right hand side of the pitch on several occasions, proving too fast and strong for Beeding and causing mayhem in their defence.
It was Beeeding now playing on the counter attack, resorting to long balls over the Cougars back line, and it was one of these punts forward which fell kindly to a Beeding striker and he finished well to draw the scores level with 15 minutes remaining,
The final 15 minutes saw Cougars desperately trying to get the winning goal they deserved with Thomas C unfortunate to have a goal disallowed in a tight off-side decision. The game finally ended 1 - 1 with the Cougars boys disappointed the game was drawn in a contest they edged 10 - 8 on points!
