U12's off to a flyer
Great start to the New League Campaign
The u12’s started fast in their opening league fixture.
The side, captained by Tom Easdale, raced to a 6-0 lead in the first 7 Minutes.
Superb pressing and passing by the dynamic midfield of Ashton Gorman, Ewan Booth, Matt Brockhurst and Tom Easdale gave Steyning no chance to settle. All scored in the first seven minutes. The picks being a delicate chip by Gorman into the top left corner and a low right footed strike from Brockhurst past the diving keeper into the bottom left hand corner.
Not to be outdone, talented centre forward, Brendan Hanley chipped in with two early goals. The first a searing strike from the edge of the box high into the top corner.
A great first go at Centre Back for Isaac Paisley saw him confident enough to press up in support of any right sided attack and deliver a string of dangerous deep crosses.
For the rest of the half the game settled down and Steyning showed how competitive they are by scoring shortly after and holding Ashington just one more goal in the first half.
HT Score 7-1 to Ashington.
The players, challenged at half time, to continue the high standards they had just set began the second half at an equally frantic pace as they had the first.
The Ashington defence, superbly marshalled by the assured and calm Goalkeeping of Sam Wheatley (GK), included Isaac Paisley, Ollie Lowdell Theo Bicknell, and Fin Goodchild who snuffed out many Steyning attacks.
This level of control allowed their team mates to launch wave after wave of attack on the opposition.
Ashington continue to score freely, adding eight second half goals.
This being in no small part to the creative ability of midfield players including Yusuf Morgan, who made chance after chance from the right hand side. Morgan demonstrated great energy and commitment to be available to make a goal line clearance after Wheatley made a great initial save in a 1v1 v’s the Steyning Centre Forward.
The second half tempo was set by the superb controlled aggressive play of Theo Bicknell, who won challenge after challenge in Midfield and the Left hand side, and then played the ball forward to created opportunities for his team mates. He is a tremendous player playing up an age group.
Many players moved into different positions including an exceptional cameo by Matt Brockhurst at Centre half. His vision and passing ability from deep play instigated the moves for Five of the second half goals.
Also, Ollie Lowdell, Ashington’s lighting quick Sweeper, moved onto the right wing and when played through by Easdale lashed an unstoppable shot low into the right hand corner.
Midfield pair Ewan Booth and Ashton Gorman are both technically superb and both played with great energy, Often involved in the attacking play then appearing seconds later, winning the ball deep in their own half. Both Scored twice and were involved in four assists on the day.
Tom Easdale played to his usual high standard weighing in with two goals and two assists. An incredibly unselfish player, he used his great footballing intelligence to play, at various stages, on the left wing, right wing, central midfield and even centre half. Making the game look as easy as it should when retaining and recycling possession with Sam Wheatley (GK) rather than concede corners or throw in to the opposition in dangerous positions.
The day belonged to Man of the Match Brendan Hanley who scored 7 (seven) goals. An unparalleled display of deadly finishing. Always available, to come short or run in behind, he held the ball up well and brought runners into play. His great instincts then saw him on the end of some of the moves he initiated to provide the finish. To score seven goals in any game at any level is a great achievement. Well done Brendan.
Lastly, Congratulations to the team on a great performance.
