Kirdford FC U13 vs. Ashington Cougars Black U13

Four games undefeated gave Cougars the confidence to challenge Kirdford FC from the league above to a friendly match. It was soon evident that the confidence was not misplaced as they looked the stronger side from the start. The early pressure reaped its reward when excellent one touch football from Thomas Cordingley and Harry Hepburn left Thomas Fitzpatrick a difficult chance, Thomas once again showed his pace and strength when shrugging off the attentions of the Kirdford defenders and powering the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
Kirdford soon struck back as once again defending corners proved to be Cougars Achilles heel when a free header was comfortably dispatched to draw Kirdford level.
Shortly after Cougars regained their lead when great work from Thomas Fitzpatrick and Jamie Gallagher forced mistakes from the Kirdford defence resulting in a penalty which Thomas Fitzpatrick finished comfortably. Moments later Jamie Gallagher continue his record of a goal a game when he finished in typical goal poaching style to extend the lead to 3-1. Within minutes Thomas Fitzpatrick completed his second hat-trick of the season to give Cougars a 3 goal cushion. However, just as Cougars seemed to have to game under control Kirdford fought back and scored two quick goals and at half time the lead was reduced to 4-3.
Within minutes of the restart a mix up in the Cougars defence left the Kirdford striker with an easy chance and the scores were level. Rather than breaking the morale of the Cougars they once again went on the offensive and a perfectly weighted through ball from Sam Boyd was met by Thomas Fitzpatrick who whilst off balance released an unstoppable shot and the ball smashed into the goal and the lead was once again restored.
Shortly after some excellent work from the Cougars midfield released Sam Boyd who shot from long range, looping the ball over the keepers head and into the Kirdford goal to extend the lead to 6-4.
Despite a last gasp effort from Kirdford the Cougars never really looked in danger of conceding again, thanks largely to some solid defending from Jack Evans, Oliver Rencontre and a performance from Thomas Fitzpatrick which can easily be compared to Beckham's against Greece!
The game ended 6-4 to Cougars.
